-
Power Distribution Unit (PDU) - An electrical device used to distribute power to the loads. These range from simple devices such as a standalone power strip mounted within a rack, to integrated units (e.g., within a UPS) with monitoring & control capabilities.
-
Pole - A row of power receptacles with power supplied from a PDU.
-
Pole Position - A power receptacle on a pole.
-
Pressure Differential - The difference in pressure between two locations in the data center used to analyze air flow behaviors.
-
Phase (PH) - Electrical phases refer to voltage waveforms that are offset in time. Most residential service is single-phase while commercial power may additionally receive three-phase service.
-
Plenum - A space used to direct air flow. A typical plenum in a raised floor environment is the space under the floor used to direct cool air.
-
Packaged Unit (PU) - An air handler designed for outdoor use.
-
Power usage effectiveness (PUE) - A measure of data center energy efficiency calculated by dividing the total data center energy consumption by the energy consumption of the IT computing equipment. This measure is the inverse of DCIE. Currently the EPA is measure this at the output of the UPS or input of PDU's.
